THE INNER DIRECTION
Meditation means turning toward the source within.
Ananda Marga includes many techniques for physical, mental and spiritual development. At its centre is meditation: looking within the mind to experience the bliss that is the essence of our existence.
That inner potential is not reserved for a special few. It is present within everybody and, ultimately, within everything.
01
Still the surface
Create space from the constant movement of thoughts, reactions and external demands.
02
Focus the mind
Gather attention around one uplifting idea instead of following every passing thought.
03
Expand awareness
Move beyond a limited sense of self toward connection, peace and inner freedom.
A QUIET PLACE · A FEW MINUTES
Try a simple meditation now.
This introductory exercise can help you experience the basic direction of mantra meditation. Personal instruction will help you take the practice further.
01
Choose your place
Find a clean, peaceful space where you are unlikely to be disturbed.
02
Sit steadily
Sit cross-legged on a mat or folded blanket. Use cushions if needed and keep your back comfortably straight.
03
Settle the body
Rest one hand over the other in your lap, close your eyes and place the tongue gently on the roof of the mouth.
04
Relax the breath
Breathe calmly through the nose. Let the body become still without forcing or straining.
Comfort matters. If sitting on the floor is not suitable, ask a teacher to help you find a stable alternative that keeps you alert and relaxed.
THE MEDITATION IDEA
Bábá Nám Kevalam
“Only my Beloved”
A mantra is not simply repeated as a sound. Its meaning gives the mind a clear and expansive direction. Repeat it silently while feeling surrounded—within and without—by infinite peace and happiness.

BUILDING A STEADY PRACTICE
Simple habits make meditation easier.
Concentration develops gradually. Consistency, preparation and a supportive environment matter more than trying to make every session perfect.
01
Begin again
A wandering mind is normal. Each time you notice it, return gently to the mantra and its meaning.
02
Create one place
Use a peaceful space and keep a clean mat or blanket especially for meditation when possible.
03
Refresh first
Wash your face, hands and feet with cool water so the body feels fresh and the mind remains alert.
04
Practise twice daily
Morning before breakfast and evening before dinner create a natural rhythm for body and mind.
05
Sing before sitting
Singing Bábá Nám Kevalam—kiirtan—can calm the mind and prepare it for meditation.
06
Carry the idea
Remember or sing the mantra during the day to sustain a lighter, more connected inner flow.
